As a Rotarian, I’m happy to commend Corey Viala in his bid for Nelson City Council; I admired his club presidential leadership and his community commitment. He has managed our club's seasonal meals on wheels for years, ventured with an ambulance full of medical goods to a town in Honduras and has shown up for many volunteer jobs since his time in Rotary. I think his years of front line health care work make him empathetically knowledgeable about all levels of our community.

I first met Corey when he welcomed me on the Nighthawks Hockey Club in the competitive GHL (Gentlemen’s Hockey League of Nelson!). He always provided calm leadership with excellent communication skills and even scored the odd goal... I always felt a special bond with him from those years spent on that team. From there I observed him thrive in various roles on the Nelson Leafs, the Rotary Club and a leadership role on the BC Ambulance service board, He is a skilled, hard working and passionate individual who I know will make an impactful presence as a City Councillor.
I worked with Corey for 32 years during his time as both an auxiliary and full-time firefighter with the Nelson Fire Department.
Whether serving as an auxiliary or a full-time firefighter, Corey took his training seriously and became a highly valued member of the department. He was always a team player and worked extremely well with others, even under intense pressure and difficult conditions.
Corey was also actively involved in giving back to the community. During his time with the department, he helped lead several community fundraisers, including fundraising for Muscular Dystrophy.
One particularly memorable effort was when Corey spearheaded the fundraising along with the Nelson Fire Departments Local 1343 members to raise $15,000 in just a few months to help purchase Nelson’s first portable defibrillator for use on a first-response vehicle.
Corey brought dedication, teamwork, and a strong sense of community service to everything he did with the Nelson Fire Department.

A Personal and Professional Endorsement of Corey Viala for Nelson City Council I am honoured and proud to add my name, both personally and professionally, to those endorsing Corey Viala for Nelson City Council. I've learned from, known, and worked side by side with Corey as a friend and colleague for over 35 years. As an Executive Officer and Past President of the Ambulance Paramedics of BC, with over 37 years in emergency medical services, advocacy, leadership, and volunteerism, I've had the privilege of standing with Corey through some of the most demanding chapters our profession has faced — in public safety, in EMS operations, in labour relations, and in the fight to keep our workers and communities safe. Those are not easy rooms to stand in, and Corey has stood in them with integrity, steady judgment, and an unwavering commitment to doing right by the people we serve. Beyond our work together, I have watched Corey give freely of his time to his community, and to causes far beyond it. His volunteerism has been exemplary in every respect — the kind of quiet, consistent service that doesn't ask for recognition but earns it all the same. Through all of it, Nelson has remained his home, his pride, and his passion. Without hesitation, I have no doubt that Corey will bring that same home-grown drive, passion, credibility, and dedication to service that has defined his entire career to his work on City Council. Nelson will be well served by him. It is with complete confidence, and as someone who has seen his character tested and proven over decades, that I endorse Corey Viala for Nelson City Council.

Corey brings a longstanding commitment to public service through his work as a paramedic and both a professional and volunteer firefighter.
Nelson is unique as a small city in B.C., with its own professional fire department and municipal police department. Corey’s work experience provides him an understanding and a hands-on perspective of these departments, which I have not seen represented on council during my twenty-three years with Nelson Police.
What also stands out is Corey’s dedication to his community and his willingness to step forward, take on responsibility, and get the job done. I believe those qualities are essential in public office, where effective representation requires integrity, accountability, sound judgment, leadership, and a genuine commitment to putting the interests of the community first. I am proud to support Corey for Nelson City Council.
I believe he would bring a thoughtful, balanced, and community-minded approach to the role, grounded in years of service and a genuine understanding of the people and organizations that make Nelson such a special place.
